In the villages of Charlapally and Theegarajupally, in the state of Telangana, India, water purification systems and the protective infrastructure that houses them were installed.
These installations, with a total cost of $33,600.00, will provide safe drinking water to over 3,088 beneficiaries.


The request: 

Dear Jean and Fatima,

I hope you are doing well. 

With heartfelt thanks for your invaluable partnership, I am pleased to submit the project report on behalf of SOPAR - Bala Vikasa. This report covers the following two projects, where a total of 3,088 beneficiaries in the villages of Charlapally and Theegarajupally now have access to affordable and purified drinking water. We are deeply grateful to Marcel and Luce Baril for their generous support, which is making a lasting impact on these communities.
Accessing clean water remains a daily challenge in many rural communities in India. In villages like Charlapally and Theegarajupally, water sources often contain dangerously high levels of fluoride, leading to serious long-term health issues. For women and girls, in particular, this burden significantly impacts their time, health, and education. Through the installation of water purification systems, these communities now have access to safe, affordable drinking water. Local committees have been trained to manage the systems, ensuring long-term sustainability. As communities take ownership of these projects, they are not only improving health but also laying the foundation for broader village development. These initiatives benefit the entire community.
Charlapally village transformed by affordable and pure water: 
Mr. T. Premindhar, from Charlapally village recalls the situation of their village prior to the project inauguration: 
For many years, a small tribal village of Charlapally has been struggling with unsafe water. 
He said "we are facing serious kidney problems here. Over the last 20-30 years, we lost around 15 people to kidney failure. I personally took two of them to the hospital. Nearly 10 others are still battling the same illness. We used to purchase purified water only from nearby towns but even that only 10% of the villagers could afford the cost of it. It was a constant burden on the poor community. Our village became known as the “Kidney Problem Village.” We were afraid to think of our future. Luckily, when we learned about SOPAR - Bala Vikasa projects from nearby villages, we gained some hope. As per the project conditions, we pooled some local contributions and constructed a room to install the water purification plant. We are now so happy that everyone in the village can now afford to have access to purified water within our own village. We feel so relieved, clean water is available for everyone, our whole villages are healthier, and we are grateful to the generous donors in Canada".

Without your generosity, these projects would not have been possible. The villagers of Charlapalli and Theegarajupally also extend their heartfelt gratitude. Access to clean water is already bringing multiple benefits to their daily lives. Thank you for this invaluable gift of water. We also extend our thanks to Jana Vikasa, our sister organization in India, which successfully implemented the projects during 2024-2025.
