The Project:
In the locality of Kourom, home to a Catholic chapel in Cameroon, a well is to be drilled at a total cost of $6,200, providing safe drinking water to more than 3,500 beneficiaries.
The Request:
From: Father Cyrille NEMI OLINGA, Diocese of Bafoussam
To: Fondation Coup de Cœur
Since access to safe drinking water is a major social issue in Cameroon, especially in rural areas, we hereby submit this request for the drilling of a well to serve the people of the large community of Kourom. This well, at a total cost of $6,200, will provide potable water to over 3,500 people.
The locality of Kourom hosts a Catholic chapel under our pastoral care. It is located 32 km from the Catholic mission of Kouoptamo, with very difficult access due to poorly developed roads. Kourom is a cosmopolitan area, like most villages in the Noun Division. To the south, it borders the Kouoptamo district, and to the west, the Foumbot district. It is part of the Bangourin district, and its northeastern side borders the Northwest Region.
This diversity comes from the coexistence of Bamouns, Bamilékés, and Anglophones who migrated there as a result of the Anglophone crisis. The current population is estimated at 3,500 inhabitants.
Access to potable water remains a real ordeal. The few water sources available are rudimentary, dug by villagers themselves, and their safety for consumption remains doubtful. Near the chapel site, there is also a health center. Thus, the acquisition of a well with safe drinking water would truly be considered a gift from heaven.
By submitting this request, we remain hopeful that you will respond favorably. Please be assured of our prayers, along with our warm regards.
Sincerely,
Father Cyrille NEMI OLINGA, scj.
