Dear Mr. Gagnon and Fatima,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing to ask Fondation Coup de Coeur if you would be willing, once again, to provide the necessary funds to finance 13 new water projects in India for the year 2023? Here are the details of all these projects:
Pothkapalli and Kupti, like many rural communities, faced challenges in accessing clean and safe drinking water. Prior to our project, approximately 90% of the villagers were depending on a nearby commercial water plant. However, many families could not afford to purchase purified water and it became a huge burden. With the leadership of some individuals in these villages, they started looking for a sustainable water solution for their villages. They heard about their neighbouring Community water purification systems and approached our partner organization with their applications.
After the feasibility study, the two village were selected, and the process began.
One of the key aspects of our project was the active involvement of the community members. To ensure ownership and sustainability, each beneficiary family contributed a membership fee ($5). This becomes village fund dedicated to the maintenance of the water purification systems. Additionally, the villages demonstrated their commitment by providing the necessary infrastructure, including a dedicated space for the installation of the water plant.
In Pothkapalli village, under the leadership of Raji R. Village Sarpanch (mayor), Suman (Water committee president) Lavanya (as Treasurer of the Water Committee), and few others took active participation in pooling the local contributions. Despite their collective efforts, the community encountered financial challenges. It was during this crucial time one retired teacher Mrs. Narender from the same village came forward and donated in memory of his late wife, which enabled them to complete the room required for the installation of the water plant. His thoughtful gesture inspired the entire community.
On behalf of Kupti and Pothkapalli villages we thank you once again! Our sincere thanks to the generous donors Marcel and Luce Baril and to all the members of the Fondation Coup de Coeur, for your continued and invaluable partnership.
This partnership has made a tangible difference in the lives of many.
Sincerely,
Shobha Singareddy
