Dear Fatima and Jean,
I come to you once again to ask you if it would be possible to help us financially to set up a new project in Peru. The Rotary Clubs of Lakewood Ranch and Castilla, Peru have partnered with the people of Villa Talandracas, located in dry northwestern Peru, to update and expand their unsafe and inefficient community water system. Lakewood Ranch Rotarians John Freeman and Anne Ross visited this community in 2018 with the Rotary Club of Castilla and Water Mission engineers to assess the need and worthiness of the community. They determined that the current community water system was inadequate, unsafe and the health of more than 3,600 residents was at risk.
Since then we have received Global Grant approval for Phase 1, of a two phase project, which will serve 1075 residents (215 households) and provide an infrastructure to expand the project to serve the remaining 3,600 residents. Field work is underway on Phase 1 and we are raising funds and seeking approvals for Phase 2 so we can continue the work after Phase 1 is complete later this year.
The Phase 2 Global Grant project will serve four communities surrounding Villa Talandracas which includes an additional 723 households or about 3600 people. The project scope will include appropriate Community Development, Health and Hygiene training, 112 solar panels, a pump, chlorine dispenser, and water meters in each house. Follow up visits by Water Mission will continue for at least one year to insure the sustainability of the project. Phase 2 cost is $155,100. See attached proposal and budget. We are seeking partners to help fund $90,000 of the project.
