The request:
Dear Mr. Gagnon,
I hope you and all the members of the Foundation are doing well.
Water projects are clearly empowering the villages in India. Thanks to your continued partnership. It is with immense gratitude,I am sharing with you a brief report along with photos on 3 water projects generously supported by Marcel and Luce Baril through your Foundation, as detailed in the table below:
“Access to drinking water was our daily struggle. We used to travel every day about 3 kms and spend many hours to collect water for our families. Villagers are struggling a lot, especially in these pandemic times, I wanted to do something to help, then I discussed the matter with our Village mayor. We came to know about the benefits of water purification systems in our neighbouring villages. With the support of our village
committee, I approached Bala Vikasa with our request. Luckily our village was selected to implement the project and we felt so happy and encouraged.
As per the project conditions of Bala Vikasa, we participated in all steps of the project and taking ownership of it. We visited every house in the village, some families did not cooperate immediately, but after making them understand the importance of having purified and affordable water in our village, around 90% of the families enrolled as members. Now we are seeing hope in our lives. Having access to water close to our home is making a big difference in our lives. We
are forever grateful to the generous donors in Canada, for giving us this precious gift of water.”
Swaroopa Jella, Vice-Mayor of Lingapur Village.
Water is helping the rural poor communities with multiple benefits. During COVID-19 pandemic times, water became more precious than ever, because hand washing is recommended still today as one of the most important way to combat the pandemic.
On behalf of SOPAR-Bala Vikasa and all beneficiary villages, I sincerely thank you, all the Foundation members and the generous donors Marcel and Luce for all your continued partnership.
Sincerely,
Shobha Singareddy
Director, SOPAR-Bala Vikasa
