Dear Jean and Fatima

First of all, thank you once again for all the financial support you have given us in our water projects in the past.
Thank you also for demonstrating your interest in our last week's phone call to support a water project in the village of Merikit, Tororo District, Uganda.
This project, with a total cost of $ 303,465, will change the lives of more than 3,341 villagers, not to mention the 16,000 inhabitants who will also have access to this water. This project was initiated to honor a great philanthropist: the late President elect 2018-2019 of Rotary International, Sam Owori.
I will personally oversee this project and ensure that it is a success, like any previous projects in Ghana in which you participated. The fundraising is led by DG George Karnes from my Rotary 7570 District who is in contact with a large number of Rotary Clubs and Districts who have pledged funds. By cons, even with all this help, our funding is still insufficient and your financial support would be greatly appreciated.
In the 2017 Merikit community needs assessment conducted by government officials with the collaboration of the Health Center director and school administrators, affected communities reported that lack of clean water and access to basic sanitation are major problems leading to widespread poor health and school absenteeism.
Indeed, in Merikit, water is scarce. During the short rainy season, people are forced to draw water contaminated by the presence of multiple animals who also drink from it. Some surface wells have been dug but are deteriorating rapidly and supply water only intermittently during the dry season.
This large-scale project will also improve the quality of care provided at the Public Health Clinic and the quality of life in 6 schools in the Greater Merikit region.
An awareness program on general and menstrual hygiene will also be put in place, which will support, among others, new mothers (with their newborns) in health facilities as well as adolescent girls so that they can continue their education adequately.
For this project, the community will be involved in providing the labor that will dig the trenches for laying water pipes and providing raw materials. A Water Users Committee, led by a Rotary Club member from Kampala, has been formed and will manage the maintenance of the facilities thus ensuring their sustainability.

As you can see, your financial support will go a long way in bringing to life a project that will have an inestimable impact.
