Good day Mr. Gagnon and Mrs Lahmami,
I am happy to write to you this morning to share with you some very good news!
With the support of Claude Lapointe and Construction LFG, one of your generous donors, 4,600 people in southeastern India now have easy and affordable access to purified water. For us from Quebec, the lack of access to water is hard to imagine but, as you know, it is not the same situation elsewhere in the world ...
Before the implementation of the projects of Mr. Lapointe and Construction LFG, the villagers of Mangole and Seetharampuram of the state of Telangana faced an excessively difficult situation: lack of money to buy purified bottled water they had to drink the water from their village well, a water that contains 2.5 times more fluoride than the maximum acceptable amount.
Continuous ingestion of water that is too fluoridated causes stiffness and pain in the joints, discoloration of the tooth enamel and bone deformation, which causes a lot of pain and inconvenience.
It was women leaders from both villages who approached their mayor to find a solution. Having heard that other surrounding villages had received help from SOPAR, they submitted a request for a water purification system to be installed in their village.
The women in the attached picture are among the initiators of the project. The photo was taken during the day of the inauguration of the project, a day of celebration because this project means better health for them, for their children and for their entire community.
As always, these projects will not end with the installation of the two water purification systems. Committees, including many of the women applicants, will ensure project management and sustainability.
On behalf of the people of the villages of Mangole and Seetharampuram, we offer you our most sincere thanks.
