Good day Mrs. Langlois and M. Gagnon,

This year, we come again to ask you, on behalf of our charitable organization "Bénin Enfants Sains" financial assistance for installation of two public fountains of drinking water in Benin.

Relevance of the project:

The field work started 15 years ago when I was teaching and supervising student nurses in Benin. My doctoral studies in Public Health at the University of Montreal allowed me to meet Beninese doctors and develop from my network of contacts an NGO in Grand Popo.
The NGO carries out the clinical examination and the follow-up of about 1 500 children per year and its mission is to reduce the morbidity and mortality rate of children from 0 to 5 years old and to increase the autonomy of families as well as maternal health in the commune of Grand Popo (Benin).
This commune has 60 villages, many of which have no drinking water and this lack is responsible for severe diarrhea in young children and many parasitic diseases leading to a high rate of malnutrition.
This year, after the soil analysis carried out by a team working in collaboration with the Board of Adjaha, I come to submit a new application for drinking water supply. The connection will be made by SONEB, Benin's water company.

Transparency and good governance:

I will be in Benin in June-July 2018 to follow up with the Beninese coordinator who is on site permanently and we will be able to inaugurate the fountains in August 2018.

Impact:

The installation of public fountains will radically transform the lives of 1,000 people currently living without drinking water, which will help reduce water-related diseases.

Sustainability:

The installation of public fountains for drinking water will be provided by the organization Benin Enfants Sains in collaboration with the district chiefs and SONEB.
Public awareness of the project will be made by teams of volunteers working with the Beninese coordinator on site with the collaboration of village leaders, teams of local leaders and the participation of the volunteer population in this village.
Benin Enfants Sains will ensure the continuity of the project through fundraising, donations from Canada and Benin. Also, she is committed to providing pictures at different stages of the works as well as during the big event that will be the inauguration of the fountains. An annual report will also show you how the beneficiaries' health has improved.

Thank you very much on behalf of the local people.

Louise Leduc
President of Bénin Enfants Sains
