The project:
Improvement of the water distribution system in the village school Smash Deng, Cambodia. The total cost of the project is $12,600.00.
The request:
From: Pierre-Jacques Gervais, CASIRA
To: Coup de Coeur Foundation
Hello Jean and Fatima
First of all, I would like to thank you for the multiple supports you have given us in our humanitarian projects so far.
As you are well aware, CASIRA has been carrying out various assistance activities in Cambodia for seven years. Most of them are aimed at improving the children’s life conditions. As part of its mission in 2017, one of its worksites will be held at the school in the small village of Smach Deng. We want to collaborate with the AllKids initiative to improve the school's water system, which is estimated to cost $ 12,600.00. All Kids has already raised some $ 6,838.00 to complete this project; a financial assistance of $ 5,762.00 from you would make it possible to complete the shortfall for its realization.
Relevance of the project:
The village of Smach Deng is located about twenty kilometers from Sihanoukville in Cambodia. Some 900 children attend primary school. There is already a well, but the pump that takes the water into a tank is no longer working and the water is unfit for consumption. Therefore children cannot drink this water. Since the school principal, Mr. Pros Pen, does not receive any financial assistance from his government to make the necessary repairs, AllKids will repair the existing well and install a new submersible pump in the solar powered well. Finally, a proven water filtration system with a self-cleaning mechanism will complete this new facility to provide quality water for schoolchildren.
Transparency and good governance of the project:
The work will be supervised by AllKids staff, who had received financial assistance from the Heart and Stroke Foundation for a similar project at another school in the Sihanoukville region, by CASIRA volunteers who will work there from January 17 to February 17, 2017 and the school leadership. I will be there myself at the end of the works for the official inauguration.
Impact:
Access to clean water will avoid many absences due to illnesses from contaminated water, which will greatly increase pupils' attendance and enable them to obtain their final graduation and will help them become self-reliant.
Sustainability:
The director of AllKids, Mr. Paul Otto, will ensure that someone is trained to maintain the facilities and also that a parts inventory is available to complete any repairs. He is also committed to ensuring the proper functioning of the water distribution system by conducting audits during his periodic visits to the school. As the director of the CASIRA projects in Cambodia, I will have the opportunity to check the well and its smooth operation because I often spend time in this city on each of my visits to Cambodia.
On behalf of families benefiting from their children's access to drinking water, our Cambodian partner AllKids and the school principal, CASIRA and I would like to thank you for your attention to this request.
