Hello Jean and Fatima
Our organization (APECA Peru) would be interested in undertaking a partnership with your Foundation (FCC) to set up a rain catchment system in the village of Terrabona, Peru.
APECA’s vision for the development of the Fernando Lores District of Loreto is a long-term vision. There are 135 small to medium sized villages scattered throughout this area. We have worked hard over the past 20 years to establish strong relationships and have found that 30 communities hold prominence for size, location and established trust and friendship. We have introduced programs to promote the leadership and health of these communities through our Promotors of Health program. We have also installed working water systems in several of these communities that we feel have greatly benefitted them. Many more of these water projects are needed to continue to improve the health of these villages.
APECA believes that education is not only important, but the key to the success of these programs. The pre, during, and post-project educational components are critical to the long-term success and sustainability of their projects.
However, we feel that our emphasis on education is more organic and long-term because APECA’s involvement in the communities is not restricted to the water project, but many other aspects of development (e.g. health campaigns, reforestation etc.)
APECA would therefore like to suggest that they pursue the APECA rain-water collection system in the villages with which they are currently working. They hope that Coup de Coeur will support their efforts to improve the health of these villages in the Amazon.
Looking to the future, it is the hope of APECA to demonstrate to the Peruvian Ministry of Health that this model of Sustainable Clean Water for the District of Fernando Lores, can become standard for all Districts in the Department of Loreto, by demonstrating the improvements to health and socioeconomic well-being.
