Project 1620 ....... Nepal

  • Domaine :

    Water

  • Région :

    Asia

  • Pays :

    Nepal

The project:

We would like to build three different kinds of reservoirs: one for collecting water, one for sedimentation treatment measuring 3 metres square, and one with the capacity to hold 10.000 litres of water.  They would all provide drinking water for 250 students, 12 teachers, and 210 residents of the village of Pipaltar in Nepal.

The request:

Dear Mrs. Langlois and Mr. Gagnon,

My name is Anna Van Ermengen and I am the secretary of the NGO Collaboration Quebec Nepal in Levis, Quebec.
Mr. Jean-Louis Joly from the Rotary Club of Quebec told us that your organization provides grants for water projects all over the world.
So we would like to tell you about our project, which involves provide drinking water to the school and a number of residents of the village of Pipaltar in Nepal.
To do this, the school has asked us for funds to build a reservoir to collect water, a sedimentation treatment reservoir measuring 3 metres square, and a reservoir with the capacity to hold 10.000 litres of water, as well as a pipe system to distribute the water.
A total of 460 people, including 250 schoolgirls and schoolboys, their 12 teachers, and around 210 village peasants would benefit from this project.
The local NGO in charge of the project will be SPSWO (Syauri Pangu Social Welfare Organisation), with whom we have worked for 12 years. This NGO is highly experienced in these types of projects.
The local population will be responsible for transporting the materials needed (sand, rock, etc.), the digging work, the laying of pipes and the filling-in work, as well as donating a total of $813.00 to the project.
The upkeep, repair, and management of the installations will be overseen by a village committee. All villagers fetching water at the school will deposit a small amount of money once a month into a special account to ensure the project’s continuing success.
The total cost of the project is $4,283.00.  As the villagers will be donating $813.00, we would like to ask you to invest 3,470.00 in this project.
This project is particularly important for the village schoolgirls.  It’s essential that the toilets have a continuous supply of water. Many girls stay home during their monthly periods or, worse, stop going to school altogether when the water supply is poor.
The project is also important for the village women, since they are the ones who journey back and forth to fetch clean water.  They will be able to use the time they used to spend making these journeys cooking, washing clothes, and caring for their children, as well as looking after their gardens and animals.

We look forward to receiving what we hope will be a positive reply,

Yours most sincerely,

Anna Van Ermengen
