Mr. Jean Gagnon

Dear Mr. Gagnon,

On behalf of the entire Madagascar team at Scouts Canada, I would like to thank you for the incredible support you have shown for the people of Madagascar, specifically this year in the Mahajanga region. As you know, creating a well for fresh water can literally be the difference between life and death for so many people. Fresh water is one of the cornerstones of our work in Madagascar, and to be able to work with organizations like Fondation Coup de Coeur and Minta Saint-Bruno has been nothing short of inspirational.
I was present in Ambato Boeni in 2014 when the wells that were made possible through Fondation Coup de Coeur and Minta Saint-Bruno were dedicated. Being able to see not only the smiles, but the relief of the families that were using the wells is something I will not forget. I watched as parents began to draw water from the wells, imagining the future for their children to be able to live free from the constraints of disease and poor sanitation. With the support of Fondation Coup de Coeur, this incredible change has been able to resonate throughout the region in 2014 in Ambato Boeni and now again in 2015 in Mahajanga. Hundreds, if not thousands of families are now able to live their lives with more autonomy. They are able to focus their efforts on things like education and employment, even on community development and the environment. This would not have been possible without the support of Fondation Coup de Coeur.
Since 2006, Scouts Canada has been working to help promote fresh water, sanitation and education in Madagascar, specifically in the north-west of the country. We found that these three things – clean water, sanitation and education – often go hand-in-hand in the fight against poverty. We are busy preparing now for another project in Ambato Boeni, Madagascar. In August 2016, we will build on the past successes of the wells, the water tower, the washrooms and the school, which would not have been possible without the combined efforts of the people of Ambato Boeni, Fondation Coup de Coeur, Minta Saint-Bruno and Scouts Canada. It is my sincere hope that we can all work together again to continue to create a better world.
I am honoured to remain, Mr. Gagnon, at your service,

Iain Tait
