Water
Africa
Madagascar
The project:
Andranovelona and Fanantenana, Madagascar, drinking water supply.
The request:
Jean, Fatima,
To those always willing to help us.
This is our Tsiroanomandidy file.
All the Andranovelona and Fanantenana villagers are expecting a development on this project, which I think would be a miracle.
Thank you for welcoming it with nothing but kind feelings.
Seeing your names on top of this document gives us great hope.
My secretary and religious brothers, we all thank you for your support.
Father Romain.

More details:
I am from Québec, born in 1925, and, since 1950, have been a religious in Madagascar.
Our congregation (Brothers of the Sacred Heart) has been in Madagascar since 1928. It currently has 82 members, all Madagascans except me.
The farmers are thirsty! A group of farmers from Fanantenana and Andranovelona recently urged us if we could begin the process of supplying water to their villages.
Following their demand, I met with the leaders of the two villages to study their proposal and we worked until very late at night.
The project consists of getting flowing water from three different sources, extending an underground PVC pipe over 2.5 km, building a 10,000 gallon reservoir, and installing two
new 5 cm PVC pipes in the two villages.
“We are the kings of the ‘Malagasy spade’.”
It took me a long time to fall asleep because I was thinking of the meeting earlier that evening with all these people in need of water.
Project relevance:
Women and children have to walk 5 km every day to get water, which will be delivered by gravity.
Transparency and governance:
The Brothers of the Sacred Heart, who run their Sacred Heart Centre in Tsioanomandidy, 20 km from the site, will ensure these two values.
Impact:
Needless to say that having access to water would improve the quality of life of 1,700 people.
Sustainability:
The two villages’ mayors have already started two water committees, each with three members representing each village and accompanied by Father Edmond and Father Patrice.
Thank you, I’ll say to them! Thank you again.
Farmers, friends, let us hold hands and “the fruits will pass the promise of the flowers.”
“François de Malherbe.”
Father Romain
