Good day Jean and Fatima

This is the project description as we have discussed.

The objectives of this global grant project are to provide safe drinking water, improved sanitation and improved hygiene to the neighboring communities of El Varillal and Las Mercedes in the Villa San Antonio Municipality of the Comayagua Department, Honduras, Central America. The objectives include the development of a new water source, rehabilitation of identified water system features, provision of a new water storage tank, piping, disinfection, community tap stands, and latrines/toilets. Beneficiary input will be used to determine the type of latrine that is installed in each community. Additional objectives also include hygiene training, related community education, monitoring of behavior change and continued monitoring plus retraining as needed. The objectives of this grant were determined after conducting a Community Assessment with the beneficiaries and all of the subsequent planning to implement, measure and evaluate the objectives involved more than 15 face-to-face visits to the communities. This process culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understand (MOU)between the Rotary Clubs, Water Missions International (WMI) which was selected as the Cooperating Organization and representatives of each community. The MOU defines the roles that each entity will play in fulfilling the objectives of the global grant.
In El Varillal there are 120 households with approximately 600 potential direct beneficiaries. In Las Mercedes there are 310 families with a total population of 1860 potential direct beneficiaries.

Hi Jean and Fatima,

About our project in El Varillal and Las Mercedes.
The project is making great headway. We are 90% done with the water component and expect to have that part of the project completed and approved by TRF before summer begins. Initial surveys have been done regarding the installation of latrines. The grant will provide 50 latrines out of the 200 that are necessary.
The remaining 150 will be the major thrust of a second Global Grant next year.

Warmest regards,
Heather
