The project:

In the Santa Cruz de Jequiti community of Livingston, Guatemala, installation of a drinking water supply system including the construction of a new reservoir and the installation of a pump, the deepening of the well and the revision of existing feed pipe installations. These facilities, with a total cost of $ 5,000.00, will provide drinking water to the 500 residents of the community.

The request:

From: Onil Boilard CASIRA
To: Fondation Coup de Coeur,  Mr. Jean Gagnon and Mrs. Fatima Lahmami
And Mr. and Mrs. Jean and Céline Crépeau,

Good day Jean and Fatima,

I am writing to you to submit a project for the supply of drinking water to the village of Santa Cruz de Jequiti in Guatemala.

Relevance:

This village, without access to drinking water for nearly three years, has already been served by a steel water tank installed in height. This completely rusty tank is out of use and the existing small surface well can not provide enough water for the 500 inhabitants of this community.

Transparency:

We have known the people of this village for a few years because we already installed a corn mill run by the women of the place, a small project that was a great success. When we went back to ensure compliance with the agreed rules, we found that the municipal council and the project officials were meeting their responsibilities very well. We could regularly follow the execution of the work in photos and videos that we make accessible to all via the internet.

Governance:

The usual approach of carrying out our projects requires the active participation of the members of the community under the direction of the municipal council as well as the signed or digitized membership of the citizens. The whole process of evaluation and collaboration with the community has engaged its residents to get involved in the project.

Impact:

Due to the loss of the rusty steel tank, the village is back at the age of the water jug daily. The community will find services adapted to its needs as it has already received them in the past.

Sustainability:

The construction of a new tank, the installation of a new pump, the deepening of the well, the revision of the supply pipe installations will provide a supply of drinking water for several years, as was the case during the installation of the steel tank by the Dutch. This time however, the raised tank will be made of concrete.

The cost:

The total cost of the project will be $ 5,000.00. Obviously, we are not immune to surprising discoveries, especially with the old piping. The work will be carried out under the responsibility of our engineer and with the participation of our Quebec volunteer team bringing its expertise to the project.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the constant support you have given us in the past and I hope that you will support us again in this vital project for this community.
