The request:

April 19, 2016
To: the Fondation Coup de Cœur:

Subject: Sponsorship request for the children at the Dinette Durin Baliziers school, of the Fondation Paradis des Indiens (FPDI), Abricots, Haiti, for the school year 2015-2016.
Firstly, the Fondation Haïti Partage board of directors wishes to extend its warmest thanks for your financial support received in 2015 for the sponsorship of the Edith Sorel Gaetjens school in Abricots, Haiti.
This school, led by the Fondation Paradis des Indiens and its president Mrs Mica de Verteuil is one of the ten schools of the small mountainous Antillean regions (écoles des mornes, in French).
To the members of the Fondation Coup de Cœur, may our thanks from the heart fully express our deepest gratitude! Your act of kindness is so cherished! Your donation will allow a second wind to the Fondation Paradis des Indiens of Abricots.
To the directors of the Fondation Coup de Cœur, please accept the “golden” thanks from the children of the Édith Sorel Gaetjens school who offer great hopes for dignity, justice and peace.
Additionally, the Fondation Haïti Partage wishes more than anything the improvement of the children attending schools in the mountains, especially the one from the Fondation Paradis des Indiens. We believe that positive social change must first go through education. Hence we have to focus on the energy and passion of these youth in order to reach a core goal: that of universal primary education for children worldwide and especially in Haiti. It is obvious that an unconditional commitment requires a strong will if we want Haitians to live with dignity.
Education is an absolute must to eradicate poverty, a problem that robs them of too much energy and effort.
The Fondation Paradis des Indiens of Abricots is without a doubt a strong partner of Haïti Partage. In order for basic education to be accessible to all children of the mountains, certain conditions must be demanded and respected.
Every year, over 2500 students enroll in the ten schools in the mountains of the Abricots commune. One of these schools grabs our attention. The Dinette Durin school has 362 students of which 174 are girls and 188 are boys. The pupils of this school have difficulty to reach the second half of primary school, i.e. from grade 3 to grade 6.
In June 2015, many students couldn’t pay for their tuition of school year 2014-2015 despite the fact that most of them hold promising grades to graduate from a Certificate of Study (Certificat d’Étude, in French).
Among the students from Paradis des Indiens schools who have obtained grades in primary or elementary level have received grants to pursue secondary, post-secondary education and even university. Among them according to Mrs de Verteuil, 2 are now doctors and over 12 are nurses as well as an impressive number of ENS graduates who have received diplomas in Science Education, 2 pharmacists, 1 lawyer, 3 agronomists, 2 accountants and many more!
Let’s think about these two future doctors, Prémis, completing his fourth year and Jamesky, completing his third year. It goes without saying that the financial support for these youth to reach their full potential will better help the country of Haiti.
The financial support must first serve the students at the primary or elementary level of education. At the Dinette Durin school which is far from Abricots, more than 210 students are in a real, if not to say dire need of help by way of sponsorship.
Sponsorship for one student at Dinette Durin for a whole school year is approximately $70 (CAD). Such costs cover tuition, uniform, books and notebooks.
For the school year 2015-2016, the sponsorships of over 180 students of the Dinette Durin school in the mountains in Abricots would require a financial aid of $12,000.00 CAD).
As a proud partner of the FPDI, we are sending our request of financial support to the Fondation Coup de Cœur of Montreal for the sponsorship of the students at the Dinette Durin school. Let us remember that the quality of education can make a difference in a society that aspires to respect and justice. There is hope in Haiti if our firm commitment for fair division is secured. Let us allow these children to hope for a better future, one in which the principles of life go through education, one that allows a collective confidence to face the future. Let us answer this call for a real “Humanitarian Sharing” that can only exist from the love of one another.
Together, we can make “a difference”.
To the member of the Fondation Coup de Cœur, our grateful thanks for your interest in our sponsorship request described above. Thank you for following these roads of solidarity and sharing that benefit and feed the spark of happiness and compassion towards our Haitian brothers and sisters.

In solidarity and collaboration

Marguerite Aussant, s.j.s.h,
President of the Fondation Haïti Partage
