The project:

In Pataz District in Peru – installation of a water treatment system adapted to the needs of the community.

The request:

Hello Jean and Fatima,

I hope you’re both well,
When we first met each other at a Boundary Rotary Club meeting three years ago, you proposed working with us on a water conveyance project abroad.
After having undertaken a lot of research, we’ve now identified a suitable project in Peru and we’re writing to you both to present the project.
The project involves the catchment, transport and filtration of water at a total cost of $35,000 US which will serve a population of 250 people.
There is a water source situated on a mountain at a height of 1700m which will insure the supply of water.
Here is a brief description of the project:
1 - Planting a 5km long, two inches HDPE pipe, connecting the water source to the tank.
2- Construction of a 20m3 concrete water tank located in the community connected to the school and each home.
3 – Installation of water filtration system adapted to the needs of the community and school of Shicum, in the district of Pataz in Peru.
This drinking water will reduce sickness and disease along with infant mortality in the village. It will greatly improve school attendance as well as the health of the population.
A village committee (JASS committee) will be set up by the heads of the village and school to check that everything is kept in good working order.
A mechanic will also be trained to ensure system repairs and will have at his disposal, on site, an inventory of the parts used in installing the system in order to carry out necessary repairs.
All these trained participants, working in total cooperation, will assure that the system is kept in good working order and also assure the longevity of the project.
I look forward receiving a positive response from your foundation, We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
