The request:

July 24, 2015

Dear Jean and Fatima,

On 19 August, a container with more than a thousand parcels containing thousands of objects will be shipped by sea from Montreal to Puerto Barrios in Guatemala then sent overland to Chacalte primarily to serve the people of that town and also the surrounding population.
In collaboration with Caritas, CASIRA (of which we are members) ships every year 7 containers to Central America and South America.
We work with these communities on various projects related to health, education, water, economic and community life. We are shipping this container to make available to them the material that they would have no other way possible of obtaining due to their current financial situation.
Of course, the shipping of such a container is very costly and we assume the costs.
The preparation of the shipment is currently over $ 10,000.00 for this year, while the cost of shipping last year amounted to $ 9,000. The cost may vary due to the retention time at customs which has an impact on transport costs. We will know the total cost at the end of the fiscal year in October 2015. Each day of retention adds additional costs regardless of the reason given (inspection, compliance, fumigation...).
The material is for the people’s daily lives: home, work, clothes, mechanical and gardening tools, shoes, medical equipment.
All the communal material (water tanks and sinks, corn mill and sewing machine, school construction, school supplies and health etc.) is provided free this year including 700 pairs of shoes, generous gift from this campaign’s partners.
We would greatly appreciate the support of your foundation to help us cover the costs of this humanitarian operation, especially as any cost savings is a direct reinvestment in the different projects of our program.

Thank you for the attention given to this project.
